Preserve Our Mountain Community

In 2004, P.O.M.C. was a leading opponent of the proposed Foothills Parks and Recreation District (FPRD) annexation of the mountain communities. In November 2004 voters supported our position.

At the time, we claimed that FPRD’s finances were shaky and that their annexation attempt was being made to increase their tax base and divert our tax dollars to cover their shortfalls. Mr. Bob Easton, FPRD Executive Director, denied our charges and asserted that the District’s financial situation was excellent.

The High Timber Times reported on November 1, 2005 that FPRD had a budget shortfall of nearly $1,000,000 for 2005. FPRD said in 2004 that they expected to gain $910,000 from Conifer area taxes if voters had approved their plan.

UPDATE FALL 2006

As we warned, the Foothills Park and Recreation District is asking voters for a tax increase in 2006 that would raise an additional $1,200,000 from taxpayer's wallets.

P.O.M.C. formed an election committee called Mountain Communities for Home Rule and was one of the leading opponents to the Littleton-based Foothills Park and Recreation District attempted annexation of the mountain communities.

On November 2, 2004, the voters decided decisively for our position in opposition to the Foothills annexation.
